Use a single quote mark (in the proper direction) before each number, no comma between, and no space between P and ’88. Add a space between name & class year and between class year & “P.”

Do not italicize when part of a building, prize, organization, etc.: He works for the Star Tribune.

When abbreviated, use italics: OED (Oxford English Dictionary); JAMA.

possessives

For singular common nouns that end in s: add ’s: the class’s graduation party

For singular proper nouns that end in s, add ’s: Davis’s book, Texas’s laws, Congress’s deadline

For plural common nouns that end in s, add only an apostrophe: the three dogs’ bowl

For proper nouns with plural form, add only an apostrophe: United States’, General Motors’, the Petersons’ house.

In a first reference to Macalester’s president in external publications, give her title and full name: President Suzanne M. Rivera. Thereafter, refer to her as President Rivera.

Lowercase “president” in more general descriptions: Suzanne Rivera is the president of ČŐş«ľ«Ć·.
