Cláudia Tatinge Nascimento is an artist-scholar with an interest in experimental, ensemble, and dance-theater performance. She is the author of After the Long Silence: The Theater of Brazil’s Post-Dictatorship Generation ���Ի���Crossing Cultural Borders Through the Actor’s Work: Foreign Bodies of Knowledge, both from Routledge. Her articles appear internationally in theater and performance studies anthologies, as well as in journals such as A[l]berto and Folhetim
(Brazil), Biblioteca Teatrale (Italy), Didaskalia (Poland), Studia Dramatica (Romania), and TDR and Theater Research International (United States).

Tatinge Nascimento began a professional stage career while living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the United States, she performed with Cleveland’s New World Performance Laboratory in Europe, North and South America, and participated in Jerzy Grotowski’s final Objective Drama Session at the UC-Irvine. As a director, she received a Consulate General of Brazil in New York Arts Grant to stage Pornographic Angel, her published adaptation of Nelson Rodrigues’ short stories at The Ohio Theater. She is the dramaturg for Li Chiao-Ping Dance’s Here Lies the Truth, a dance piece on social inequity that has been presented at the Overture in Madison, the Asian Dance Festival in Honolulu, and San Francisco’s CounterPulse Festival. Tatinge Nascimento was a fellow with the Mellon Foundation’s Renewed Purpose/�պ���Ʒ’s Institute for Global Citizenship, and at Trinity College Dublin’s Long Room Hub Arts and Humanities Research, Wesleyan University’s Center for the Humanities, and Freie Universität-Berlin’s “Interweaving Performance Cultures” International Research Center. In the spring 2023, she was an artist in residence at Caldera Arts Center. The performances that she creates emphasize specificity and personal engagement in non-linear (and often non-narrative)structures. Tatinge Nascimento’s current dance-theater project explores geopolitical
displacement.

Tatinge Nascimento is on the editorial boards of Kotter Editorial, Latin American Theater Review, and Pitágoras 500, and is the guest editor of special issues on contemporary Brazilian theater in scholarly periodicals such as Theater—Yale’s Journal of Criticism, Plays, and
Reportage and Theater Research International. In 2019 she chaired the American Society for Theater Research (ASTR) Barnard Hewitt Prize for Outstanding Research in Theatre History in 2019 and currently serves as the organization’s Secretary. Tatinge Nascimento holds an Acting Conservatory Degree from Casa das Artes de Laranjeiras and a Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Here Lies the Truth (dramaturg), a dance piece about BIPOC experiences vis-à-
vis the rise of right-wing sentiment in the United States since the 2016
presidential election and subsequent social movements for racial justice.
Scholarly: “The Trouble with Performance or In Defense of Theater” (tentative title), a book-
length research project that interrogates why some of the most innovative
contemporary productions are generally viewed as “performance” rather than
“t��𲹳ٱ��.”
