Keep the following notes in mind when selecting a faculty sponsor:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The faculty sponsor should come from a department that most closely aligns with the content and industry of the internship (ex: you should not choose a faculty member from the Biology department to sponsor your Theater\/Dance internship).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The faculty sponsor does not have to be your academic advisor, although students using the internship to explore career options often seek this person\u2019s support.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Credit earned will be in the department of the faculty sponsor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some departments will sponsor only students who have previously taken coursework in that academic area.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While faculty are generally quite supportive of internships, they are not required to serve in this capacity. (International students: use your legal (passport) name in the Learning Contract.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Once all required information is provided, we will start the approval process. This form also outlines your agreement with the college regarding insurance, personal conduct, and liability.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>CPT form (if you are an international student on a student visa, see below.)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After these forms are completed, you will be added to the Internships for Credit Moodle course. You will also receive a Site Letter via email that will connect you, your faculty sponsor, and your site supervisor.<\/p><\/p>\n\t                    <\/div>\n\t                <\/accordion-container-panel>\n\t            <\/li>\n\t        \t            <li class=\"accordion-group__list-item\">\n\t                <accordion-container-header\n\t                    tag=\"h3\"\n\t                    class=\"accordion-group__item-heading\"\n\t                >\n\t                    <accordion-container-header-button\n\t                        class=\"accordion-group__heading-button\"\n\t                        controls=\"accordion-group-6\"\n\t                        id=\"accordion-group-heading-button-6\"\n\t                    >\n\t                        <span class=\"accordion-group__button-text\">International Students<\/span>\n\t                        <span class=\"accordion-group__icon-wrap\">\n\t                        \t<svg aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"base-symbol accordion-group__button-icon\" viewbox=\"0 0 12 12\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t    <use xlink:href=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/macalester-2020\/dist\/svgs\/symbol-plus-small.svg#icon\"\/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/svg>\n\t                        <\/span>\n\t                    <\/accordion-container-header-button>\n\t                <\/accordion-container-header>\n\t                <accordion-container-panel\n\t                    id=\"accordion-group-6\"\n\t                    class=\"accordion-group__item-panel\"\n\t                >\n\t                    <div class=\"accordion-group__item-panel-inner\">\n\t                        <p><p><b>International students here on student visas must register their internships for credit, whether it is paid or not.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In order to qualify for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) employment, your internship position has to relate to your declared or intended major (not minor or concentration). To prove this, you will fill out a CPT form that explains the relation between your internship and declared\/intended major that ISP will review. They will then process your CPT and send you an electronic I-20 to you with the CPT work authorization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>You cannot start any work until you have the I-20 in hand. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When choosing a start date for your internship (reflected on your Learning Contract), keep in mind that you need to have approvals from your Faculty Sponsor and Site Supervisor submitted, your own registration forms completed (Outlined in Step 4 above), and the CPT form submitted before beginning your internship.
